HI,

I'M HENRIETTE CANINO

(née Ruhrmann)

I'm a PhD researcher based in California and London - my doctoral project focuses on how policymakers and innovators can build a common knowledge base to develop tech policy frameworks reflective of societal values.

I offer independent data design services, including data analysis, visualization, and interpretation. For more information on how I can support your team or organization, e-mail me at datadesign@henriettecanino.com.

ABOUT

I am a researcher, data analyst, and PhD candidate at University College London’s Department for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Public Policy. My background is in Public Policy, I hold a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

My doctoral project in the area of legislative science advice seeks to explain how innovators and legislators engage and exchange the knowledge necessary to align innovation with societal needs and values.

Previously, I have worked on policy strategies around inclusive AI - in particular, in facial recognition and digital ID systems - implications of algorithmic bias, and sustainable innovation in the private sector (as a student consultant for Google).

I have held research positions at University of California, Berkeley's CITRIS Policy Lab, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and University of California, San Diego and gained practical policy experience at a U.S. Senator's office and the European Parliament.

PRACTITIONER TOOL

The Research-to-Action Compass provides strategic guidance to translate their vision for knowledge exchange and impact into practice - based on three years of research. The Compass tool guides self-reflection on goals and resources, presents the scope of tested support mechanisms for more knowledge exchange and impact, helps design modular strategies and compare them based on relevant criteria - based on three years of qualitative and quantitative research. The development was supported by a grant from the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research and delivered by the Fraunhofer IAO CeRRI and TU Berlin.
